Notice of PVH Requirements for Online Arena Parking Reservations

The City of Charlotte requires all passenger vehicles for hire (PVH), regardless of home base,  to have a company operating certificate authorizing the operation of such business, and vehicle operating permits and driver permits, before operating in the city.  Drop-offs (only) do not require permits.  Parking reservations imply a pick-up and return trip after an event and require all certificates and permits.  All vehicles operating without required permits are subject to substantial civil fines.

For more information on obtaining PVH company certificates and permits, contact the Passenger Vehicles for Hire Office at (704) 398-6793 / 6748 / 6776.  The PVH Office is located at 4150 Wilkinson Blvd, Charlotte, NC, 28208.  Information and applications are available at the office location or online at www.cmpd.org.  Click on the “Taxi, Limo, and Other Vehicle For-Hire Information” link.

Group Bus Parking and Circulation

On-street curb space to park additional group buses has been identified for selected walking distances to/from the arena: within one block – up to six buses; within two blocks – another 28 buses, within three blocks – an additional 41 buses; and within four blocks – another 15 buses.

There will be a fee for Group Bus parking which can be prepaid or paid at the site to a bus-parking attendant.  The prepay fee should be lower to encourage prepaying.

The key to successful Group Bus operations will be good communications with the bus operators prior to their departure to the arena.  The most important way to accomplish this will be that everyone who contacts the Charlotte Bobcats or the arena about Group Sales should be directed to the Group Bus Operator to arrange/ensure bus parking.  This could lead to mail-out of route maps and from the assigned parking location.

Ideally, all buses will be assigned to a specific Group Bus parking area prior to arriving.  The bus driver will need to know what route to use for approaching the Arena area and the designated Group Bus parking site.  There will be a bus-parking attendant on site to direct the bus driver to the next available Group Bus parking space.  The attendant can also provide any updated information on the best way for the driver to leave the location after the event.

If Group Buses arrive at the arena without prior arrangement, the drivers will be directed by CMPD officers to a specific location where the bus-parking attendant could direct the bus operator to an available space and collect the fee.

The Arena

The Time Warner Cable Arena is located in Center City Charlotte, North Carolina.  Trade Street, Fifth Street, Caldwell Street, and Charlotte’s Light Rail Transit (LTR) line border the arena site.  It is located directly across Trade Street from the Charlotte Transportation Center, the focal point of bus services operated by CATS.  In spring 2007, CATS began LRT operations in South Corridor, providing direct passenger service to the arena.

The Time Warner Cable Arena is within walking distance to over 4,000 hotel rooms and 150 restaurants.  The facility is convenient to 55,000 Center City Charlotte employees and 10,000 Center City residents.

Nearly 40,000 off-street parking spaces are located within a 15-minute walking distance of the Time Warner Cable Arena.

Lane Closures

In order to accommodate pedestrian surges before and after a major event at the Time Warner Cable Arena, the following traffic lanes will be closed to vehicular traffic:

  • North side of Trade Street between Brevard and College Streets.
  • East side of Brevard Street between Trade Street and Fourth Street.
  • West side of Brevard Street between Third Street and Fourth Street.
